About Us

It was a difficult corporate meeting, nothing out of the ordinary, really.  But after 15 years in the high pressure world of corporate long term care, I made what at the time seemed a snap decision - I don't have to do this job for the rest of my life!  With that thought flooding my mind, I resigned on the spot.  Corporate management was shocked, but when I called home and told my wife, her response was, "It's about time!"

The next day I had to lead an all day staff training meeting on team building.  Since my plans to leave were being kept quiet until a replacement was found, I figured I could pull off the day.  Things went well - until we got to the closing session, a film on the importance of vision.  Several emotional stories were represented showing how having a personal vision of the future played an important role in one's life.  And then the last story began - The Starfish Story.

I had never heard the tale, but it's simple and profound message left me speechless.  We could all make a difference in the world if we just acted.  I didn't know what that meant for my life, but the story and the point have stuck with me.

Over the years since that day my wife and I have slowly but surely changed our lives so that we might make a difference in the lives of others.  It has been a fulfilling life and has now culminated in the formation of The Starfish Fund, a means for us to not only make a difference, but to encourage others to take action in their own lives.

The Starfish Story is based on the The Star Thrower by Loren Eiseley.  The story, as told today in many versions around the globe and across the internet, brings the simple message that you can make a difference if you will just act to help others.  Eiseley's story, however, carries an even deeper meaning, as he tells how his true life experience of helping lifted the gloom of depression and renewed his self worth and his life.  I encourage you to find and read the work.

The Starfish Fund was founded by Glenn and Sandy Pierce in 2005 in an effort to promote and support the work of individuals and organizations working to use their God given talents and blessings to help others around the world.  The fund is governed by a small board of individuals dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.

The Starfish Fund is a non-profit foundation as determined by the IRS and its 501(C)(3) regulations.
